Royal succession – prepare for Queen Camilla

A post about the monarchy after Queen Elizabeth II

Permitted to discuss only those topics that the ‘thought-controllers’ signal we may talk about, today may be considered premature to address the subject of Her Majesty’s mortality. Yet the Queen, who at 95 years of age spent a Wednesday night at King Edward VII hospital, has ‘been advised’ to rest, missing all public engagements for the next two weeks. Whilst she is sanguine about the development, she is possibly ‘not amused’ – given her wise response to The Oldie magazine’s nomination of her as ‘Oldie of the Year’. For those interested in such things, the award went by default to dancer, Leslie Caron a mere 90 year old, taking over from Lionel Blair.

When on on 20 February 2021 I wrote of Prince Philip’s hospitalisation, little did we know his death would occur within seven weeks of my post. His mother-in-law Elizabeth the Queen Mother lived to see her 101st birthday, but will her daughter attain the same longevity?

In the meantime her remaining Counsellors of State – Charles, Prince of Wales and William Duke of Cambridge will bear the burden. In the absence of Andrew and Harry (who are suspended from Royal duties) perhaps too Princess Anne, Edward Earl of Wessex, his wife Sophie, and Andrew’s daughter Princess Beatrice will be promoted to help out?

In my penultimate post The Pointless Prince I examined the four Princes and the merits of hereditary monarchy. The solution that I then proposed seems highly unlikely. Following the Queen’s death (signaled apparently with the code words ‘London Bridge’) it seems the Prince of Wales will succeed as King Charles III: and Queen Camilla will become our new reality.

In the aftermath of Diana Princess of Wales’ death, Camilla did not enjoy public acceptance. However, time passes and heals bereavement – and royal observers report this week, in anticipation of her new role as consort to a new monarch, the Queen may appoint Camilla to her depeleted list of Counsellors.

For those expecting the birth of a female child in the next few months, Camilla might suddenly a popular choice of name?
